The quick and easy way to rent an airport car.

How does the airport car rental work?

1. You book and pay for the rental vehicle of your choice online on the reservations page on this website or book through Whatsapp +27 60 985 0263

2. After you cleared customs (if needed) and collected your luggage (if needed) you walk through to the airport quick pick-up point where you will be met by a Saayman Car Hire staff member who will explain the workings of the vehicle, hand you the paperwork and hand you the key. You drive off. It's as easy and hassle-free as that!

3. When returning to the airport, a Saayman Car Hire staff member will meet you at the quick drop-off location, make a quick vehicle inspection, you hand the member the vehicle key and you go catch your flight.

How much does airport car rental cost?

Vehicle rental starts from approximately R430 (app. $24 or €23) per day, with the first 200km FREE. See the rental options. 

After the first free 200km, there is a per/km charge, with differing rates applying to different class vehicles. These rates are clearly explained when you reserve a vehicle.

Please note the mandatory add-ons:

- Re-Fuelling Fee @ R40 (app. $2.25 or €2) per rental

- Contract Fee @ R90 (app. $5 or €4.80) per rental

What are the operating hours for airport car hire?

The vehicle of your choice can be delivered to you at the airport any time between 4h00 (4am) and 22h00 (10pm) on any day of the week. 

For the record, Cape Town International Airport is open 24 hours per day but the security closes at 10pm and reopens at 4am.

Who can rent a car at the airport?

The Saayman Car Hire service is available only to persons who fly in and out from the airport, not if the person resides in Cape Town or the surrounding areas. (For the latter, you are most welcome to book a vehicle through the general Saayman Car Hire reservation service to pick up and deliver your rental vehicle at the Saayman Rental Office in Strand, Cape Town.) 

Saayman Car Hire vehicles are available to all persons with a valid Passport or ID and valid driver's license on pick-up of your rental vehicle. Please note that your driver's license must be issued in English you have the International Driver's Permit Booklet with the translations.

Can you provide a driver?

The Saayman Airport Car Hire service is available only to persons who can drive themselves.

What if my flight is cancelled?

Should you flight be cancelled for the day, contact Saayman Rental Office to discuss arrangements. It is easiest to do this through Whatsapp +27 60 985 0263

Can I have a 4x4 safari vehicle delivered to me at the airport?

4x4 safari vehicles are not delivered to the airport because these are fully equipped camping vehicles that requires clear instructions on how the various features should be operated.  

May I rent a trailer at the airport?

The trailer rental is not available at the airport.
